How Old Must I Be For Certification?
Minimum Ages to Bartend
Before enrolling in bartending courses, ensure you meet your state’s minimum age requirement. Below is a breakdown of the legal bartending ages across all 50 states:
- 18 Years Old:
- Alabama, Alaska (for serving in restaurants), Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming.
- 19 Years Old:
- Connecticut.
- 20 Years Old:
- Mississippi.
- 21 Years Old:
- Arizona, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Utah.

How Long Does Certification Last?
All government certifications and TIPS certifications(optional) last three years. LBS helps students with renewal without repeating the course.
Are You an Accredited School and Is Your Certification Accredited?
Nationwide Certification
LBS is the ONLY school that will certify you in 46 of 50 states through a single hands-on course. Moving to another State? No problem. LBS will re-register your profile and can take certification in the new state with NO EXTRA CHARGES!
Note: Please contact us to receive your state card or to be registered. You should be able to provide proof you moved to the state. A nominal fee and extra live proctored exam may be required for NV, CO, RI, AK, MD and TN. But, you don’t need to take the course again!
Certifications Offered
LBS Completion Certificate
Issued to all students who complete the course and their final exam.
Not only is this certification a diploma from our school. You will also be registered as an approved bartender by each said state’s alcohol control board! Upon graduating, students will have everything needed in order to get a job in the industry.
State /Province Certification Card
LBS issues all of it’s students official US and Canada bartender certification which enables them to work in the state or province of their residence.
LBS’ national certification program obtains cards from other states for students (free of charges and without re-enrolling in school).
TIPS Certification
For students ordering a TIPS certification, the card will be delivered as in the example below upon completion of school. TIPS must be renewed every three years.
Restrictions
Not only being registered as an approved bartender in your state’s alcohol control board, students will also be receiving a Certificate of Completion from LBS which is an added credit under their belt! After completing the course, you will have everything you need to get a job in the industry.
