Ashwaubenon ( /æʃˈwɔːbɨnɒn/) is a village in Brown County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the village population was 17,634, however many village signs still reflect the 1990 census figure of 17,777. Ashwaubenon is a suburb of Green Bay, Wisconsin and is part of the Green Bay Metropolitan Statistical Area. Part of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin is in Ashwaubenon.
Ashwaubenon is located at 44°29′14″N 88°5′0″W / 44.48722°N 88.083333°W / 44.48722; -88.083333 (44.487158, -88.083284).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 12.7 square miles (33.0 km²), of which, 12.4 square miles (32.0 km²) of it is land and 0.4 square miles (1.0 km²) of it (2.90%) is water.
Ashwaubenon takes its name from Chief Ashwaubamy, a Sioux chief that controlled the land and resources in the area in the early 1880s. Eventually the US Military bought most of the west side of Green Bay, Wisconsin from the Sioux in the 1850s and 60’s, except the area…
