Bear Valley is a census-designated place in Alpine County, California. The population was 121 at the 2010 census, down from 133 at the 2000 census. The town is accessible by State Route 4. Bear Valley is within the Stanislaus National Forest. Although inside Alpine County, Bear Valley Fire Department has contracted with California Department of Forestry, San Andreas, for dispatching.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.2 square miles (13 km), of which 99.58% is land and 0.42% is water.
Bear Valley post office opened in 1967.
