Budd Lake is a census-designated place and unincorporated area located within Mount Olive Township, in Morris County, New Jersey. As of the 2010 United States Census, the CDP population was 8,968. Budd Lake was named for John Budd. Prior to that, it was called Hattacawanna Lake.
Budd Lake CDP is located at 40°52′25″N 74°44′13″W / 40.873494°N 74.736828°W / 40.873494; -74.736828 (40.873494,-74.736828). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP had a total area of 6.424 square miles (16.640 km), of which, 5.443 square miles (14.099 km) of it is land and 0.981 square miles (2.541 km) of it (1.74%) is water.
Budd Lake, the lake, is a glacial lake up to 12 feet (3.7 m) in depth at an elevation of 933 feet (284 m), and a surface area of 374 acres (1.51 km). It is the largest natural lake in New Jersey.
