Bushong is a city in Lyon County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 34. It is part of the Emporia Micropolitan Statistical Area.
The city was originally named Weeks. In 1886, the name was changed to Bushong after Albert J. “Doc” Bushong of the St. Louis Browns, for their 4 games to 2 win of the 1886 World Series over Chicago White Stockings. Bushong played every game and was at bat, in Game Six, when the winning run scored by stealing home. The Missouri Pacific Railroad honored several of the St. Louis players by naming some of its rail stops in their honor. Bushong, Kansas is the only town still carrying its name from the 1886 World Series.
