Cantil is an unincorporated community in Kern County, California. It is located 6 miles (9.7 km) southwest of Saltdale, at an elevation of 2018 feet (615 m). Cantil is located in the northern Antelope Valley in the Fremont Valley section.
Cantil was founded as a station on the Nevada and California Railroad in 1908 or 1909. The first post office opened in 1916.
Its zip code is 93519 and its area code 760. Cantil is near the home of the Honda Proving Center of California (HPCC), a test track used for testing new car models and motorcycles. Honda closed the test facility in April 2010. The large facility is presently for sale and plans for the test track have not been revealed.
