Chinle (Navajo: Chʼínílį́) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Apache County, Arizona, United States. The name in Navajo means “flowing out” and is a reference to the location where the water flows out of the Canyon de Chelly. The population was 5,366 at the 2000 census.
Chinle is located at 36°9′17″N 109°34′45″W / 36.15472°N 109.57917°W / 36.15472; -109.57917 (36.154718, -109.579040).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 16.0 square miles (41 km), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 5,366 people, 1,358 households, and 1,076 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 334.7 people per square mile (129.2/km²). There were 1,644 housing units at an average density of 102.6 per square mile (39.6/km²).
