Hutchins is a city in Dallas County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,338 at the 2010 census.
Union Pacific’s Dallas Intermodal Terminal is located partly in the city of Hutchins and partly in the city of Wilmer . The shipping facility was built by AUI Contractors LP, Prime Rail Interests Inc. and Halff Associates, Inc., a 70 million U.S. dollar project.
Hutchins is located at 32°38′38″N 96°42′27″W / 32.64389°N 96.7075°W / 32.64389; -96.7075 (32.643784, -96.707538), approximately 9 miles (14 km) south of downtown Dallas. It is bordered by Dallas on the north and northwest, Lancaster on the southwest, Wilmer to the south, and the Trinity River to the east. Interstate Highways 20 and 45 pass through the city.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.3 square miles (24.1 km), of which 9.1 square miles (23.6 km) is land and 0.23 square miles (0.6 km), or 2.35%, is water.
