Lathrop is a city located in San Joaquin County, California. At the 2010 census Lathrop’s population was 18,023. The city is located in Northern California at the intersection of I-5 and 120 freeways.
Lathrop is located at 37°49′1″N 121°17′19″W / 37.81694°N 121.28861°W / 37.81694; -121.28861 (37.816904, -121.288633). The San Joaquin River is on the east side of Lathrop and has elevation of 20 feet (7 m).
Neighboring towns include Manteca, Ripon and Tracy.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city covers an area of 23.0 square miles (60 km), 21.9 square miles (57 km) of it land, and 1.1 square miles (2.8 km) of it (4.79%) water.
The Mayor of Lathrop is J “Chaka” Santos. He was elected in 2010 and his term ends in 2012. The current City Council is composed of Vice-Mayor Christopher Mateo, Councilmember Sonny Dhaliwal, Councilmember Martha Salcedo, and Councilmember Omar Ornelas.
